The OCRC and Cancer Care Ontario have prepared an Ontario Cancer Fact that describes the health effects of shiftwork, as well as interventions that may help minimize the risks. Shiftwork is a probable cause of breast cancer, according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer. Although research is limited, the strongest evidence of effective intervention is for scheduling changes, with less support for controlled light exposure, behavioural strategies, and prescription or natural health products.
