Research can be a long process, and its impact may be hard to see in the moment, but looking back reveals real, meaningful progress for workers through occupational research. We are pleased to share our brief report Driving Prevention Through Research Leadership in Occupational Disease, which highlights some key impacts of OCRC research from 2021 to 2025.
Over the past five years, we have broadened our scope from researching occupational cancer to researching occupational disease. This report highlights the expanded research capacity across our Surveillance, Exposure, and Epidemiology programs, alongside enhanced knowledge translation efforts. It demonstrates how our initiatives have been collectively applied to strengthen prevention of occupational disease risks and improve workplace practices among worker groups, including emergency services, construction, healthcare, and mining.
OCRC’s research will continue to focus on sectors where occupational disease remains a significant concern and where evidence can inform prevention strategies, standards, and compensation policies. Through close collaboration with partners across Ontario’s occupational health system, the OCRC remains committed to conducting the rigorous, independent research to inform prevention, policy, and compensation as the world of work continues to evolve.
