Diverse groups across Canada are pushing Ottawa to ban all uses of asbestos in Canada. Asbestos is the commercial name for a group of mineral fibres that cause lung cancer and mesothelioma, as well as other cancers and health effects. While it is no longer mined in Canada, asbestos products such as brake pads, pipes, and tiles are still imported and used.
