Ontario names world renowned expert to lead review on occupational cancers

25 Jan 2019

News release: The Ontario government has announced that it is launching a review of how occupational cancer is compensated in the province, to ensure that the most up-to-date science and best practices are used in determining a worker’s right to benefits. OCRC’s Director, Dr. Paul Demers, will conduct the review.

The review will address and provide recommendations on the following:

  • How can scientific evidence best be used in determining whether a cancer is work related, particularly in cases of multiple exposures?
  • Are there any best practices in other jurisdictions that Ontario should consider adopting?
  • As scientific evidence evolves around occupational cancer, what criteria should the Ministry of Labour consider in developing legislative policy?
