On Friday April 13th, the Minister of Labour’s office issued a release that the provincial government plans to review the way work-related cancers are evaluated in Ontario, to ensure that up-to-date science is used to determine compensation. Dr. Paul Demers and the Occupational Cancer Research Centre have been appointed to conduct the review.
Challenges surrounding workers’ compensation have been highlighted recently as 250 previously-denied compensation claims by former GE workers in Peterborough are being reviewed by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board.
