On Monday, April 28, 2014, the National Day of Mourning commemorated workers who have been killed, injured, or fallen sick as a result of their work. The National Day of Mourning is an annual event, and was officially recognized by the federal government in 1991. It serves as a day to remember lives lost, and to emphasize the importance of improving health and safety in the workplace to prevent future deaths, injuries and diseases.
