On October 9, 2013, Bill 30 was passed as the Skin Cancer Prevention Act in the Ontario Legislature. It will prohibit youth under the age of 18 from using tanning beds in Ontario. The use of tanning beds has been linked to increased risk of melanoma and other forms of skin cancer. The International Agency for Research on Cancer classified UV-emitting tanning devices as Group 1, carcinogenic to humans, in 2009.
